Preparing for your pet’s photoshoot
We want your pet to look their best on their special day with us, so here are a few pointers and tips.
Haircuts
If your pet needs grooming, we generally find it’s best not to do this immediately before the shoot. Obviously you will know your pet best, though for cats and dogs, we usually recommend getting them groomed 2-3 weeks before their visit, so that they can settle into their cut.
As with human portraits, we feel that seeing your pet’s eyes is very important for a successful portrait. We therefore strongly recommend that their eyes are easily visible and not concealed behind lots of fur or hair.
Toys & props
Whether it’s a colourful collar, a beloved toy, or a stylish bandana, these items can add a personal touch to the photoshoot. If your pet has specific toys or props you’d like to include in the photos, ensure they are clean and in good condition. Groom any stuffed animals or blankets, and make sure they are free of dirt or stains. Avoid anything that might cause discomfort or stress for your pet, and remember that simplicity often works best in capturing their natural charm.
Exercise
If your pet is highly energetic, we recommend you take them for a good walk or a run the day before their shoot. If possible, give them another invigorating walk a few hours prior to the shoot. This way, they can release some of that lively spirit and arrive a bit more settled. Just a friendly tip: it’s best to avoid exercising them right before the shoot, to ensure they stay clean, focused and ready to shine in front of the camera.
Requests?
Please share any special requests or concerns you may have with us in advance. Whether your pet has certain fears or is particularly sensitive to certain sounds, let us know so we can tailor your pet’s photoshoot to accommodate their unique needs. This collaboration ensures a smoother experience, and will help to ensure we obtain images that truly capture your furry friend’s essence.
